Sensor connectors come in various types, each designed to meet specific application needs, environments, and electrical requirements. Some of the most common sensor connector types include M8, M12, M16, and 7/8” circular connectors. 


  • M8 Connectors
These connectors are commonly used in sensor and actuator interfaces, especially in compact spaces where space-saving is critical. M8 connectors typically come with 3, 4, or 5 pins and are widely used in factory automation, robotics, and process control. They are known for their small size, making them suitable for tight installations where larger connectors like M12 might not fit.


  • M12 Connectors
M12 connectors are more robust and handle higher current and voltage than M8 connectors. They are typically used in industrial automation, transportation, and communication applications. Their higher pin count (ranging from 3 to 12 pins) allows for more complex sensor data transmission, making them ideal for advanced control systems that handle both power and communication.


  • M16 and 7/8” Connectors
These connectors are used for larger sensors or industrial devices that require more power or data transmission. They offer better durability and current handling but are often too large for tight spaces, limiting their use in highly compact installations.


The primary differences between these types lie in their physical size, current/voltage handling capacity, and the number of pins. M8 connectors are perfect for low-power, small-size applications, while M12 connectors offer more flexibility in terms of power and signal transmission. Selecting the right type depends on the specific needs of the application, including the size of the sensor, voltage requirements, and environmental considerations.
