FTTH (Fiber To The Home) is a fiber optic communication technology. Its core feature is to extend high-speed data transmission directly to the user's home or business through the fiber optic network, realizing the "light to the home" network access method.

Basic Definition
FTTH refers to the direct access of optical fiber to the user terminal (such as a residence or enterprise), the installation of an optical network unit (ONU) at the user end, and no copper wire connection between the end office and the user. The signal is transmitted from the optical line terminal (OLT) to the ONU at the user end through a single-mode optical fiber, and then the device is connected through a pigtail. In the optical access series, FTTH is the optical access type closest to the user except FTTD (fiber to the desktop), mainly providing broadband, telephone, TV and other multi-service integration services.
Significant Advantages
1) Bandwidth improvement: Supports transmission rates of up to 10Gbps and above, far exceeding traditional copper wire networks.
2) Strong anti-interference: Optical fiber is not subject to electromagnetic interference and has higher transmission stability.
3) Low maintenance cost: Simplifies the line maintenance and installation process.

Fiber Type
1) Single-mode fiber: long transmission distance, suitable for long-distance access to homes.
2) Multimode fiber: low cost, suitable for short-distance access.

Application Classification
Based on the degree of penetration of fiber into users, FTTH can be divided into:
1) FTTC (fiber to the home): fiber directly accesses the home.
2) FTTB (fiber to the building): fiber to the corridor or community distribution point.
3) FTTH (fiber to the terminal): fiber to the user's specific equipment.

Development Status and Trends
FTTH has become the mainstream technology of global broadband networks, especially suitable for cities and developed areas. With the advancement of new communication technologies such as 5G/6G, FTTH will be integrated with other technologies to provide richer Internet of Things (IoT) application scenarios.
