The die cast metal housing of M9 connectors is usually made of zinc or light zinc alloy, and plated with high-quality nickel or black oxide on the copper undercoat to provide excellent emi/rfi shielding. These rear shells provide high reliability and are ideal for rugged, harsh environment applications. They are also available in a variety of sizes for standard and high-density connector types, as well as a wide range of cable outlet and installation options.
The metallized plastic shell of M9 connector has the advantages of light weight and low cost. At the same time, it has the wear resistance and shielding effect of metal shell, which can usually meet the requirements of transportation applications with low operating environment requirements. And these enclosures usually have screw and snap on options, as well as various cable outlet and installation options.
The plastic housing of M9 connectors provides the most cost-effective solution, but it is not as durable or resistant to harsh environments as die cast metal or metallized plastic wood, and they do not provide emi/rfi shielding. Plastic enclosures are usually more suitable for less demanding applications, in which impact, vibration and signal interference are not design considerations, but there are a variety of sizes to accommodate standard and high-density connectors, various cable outlets and installation options, and a variety of colors to choose from to simplify wiring and installation.
