What should we do when crimping fails?

Introduction to crimping

If the connection after crimping is found to be unsatisfactory, the following remedial measures can be taken:

1. Re-crimp: If the crimp height or width does not meet the specifications, it can be corrected by re-crimping. Make sure to use the correct crimping tool and appropriate pressure this time.

2. Terminal replacement: If the terminal is deformed or damaged, replace it with a new one and ensure that the wire preparation and crimping process are correct.

3. Calibrating the tool: If the crimping tool is worn or miscalibrated, it may cause poor crimping. In this case, the tool needs to be calibrated or replaced.

4. Improve wire preparation: If the wire insulation is not stripped properly or the length is incorrect, the wire needs to be re-prepared and ensure that the stripping length and crimping length meet the manufacturer's requirements.

5. Profile analysis: If the crimping quality does not meet the requirements, profile analysis can be used to determine the problem and then make necessary adjustments.

6. Pull test: Tension test the crimped connection to verify that its mechanical strength meets the specified value.

7. Electrical testing: Conduct electrical tests such as voltage drop test and insulation resistance test to ensure the electrical performance of the crimped connection.

8. Repair records: Record all unqualified crimped connections and the repair measures taken for future quality control and improvement.

9. Operator training: Ensure that operators receive appropriate training and understand the correct crimping techniques and quality standards.

10. Use auxiliary tools: Use special tools and accessories such as crimping pliers, crimping dies, wire stripping tools, etc. to ensure high-quality crimped connections.

11. Environmental considerations: Check whether the crimping area is contaminated, such as moisture, oil, etc., and clean the crimping area and ensure that the environmental conditions meet the crimping requirements.

12. Inspect materials: Ensure that the terminals and wires used meet the quality standards and have no material defects.

Through the above measures, unqualified crimped connections can be effectively handled and ensure that they meet the expected performance standards.
